What: GMRS Radio basics.
Bring Your Own Radio.
Potluck.
Why:
To learn about GMRS radios, how to use them, and how to use the new
Point Arena GMRS repeater system.
GMRS radios are perfect for emergency and community communications.
Class will start with a brief overview of radios, the FCC bandplans, basics of how to use a handheld radio, and care and feeding of batteries and antennas.
We will do in class demonstrations with the radios and using the repeater.
The second half we will use the radios and practice listening and calling each other and using the repeater.
Bring your radio if you have one and the Programming Cable that goes with it.
We will have a computer to program the radio memories with the Chirp software.
Bring you laptop if you want to setup Chirp for yourself
